Welcome to the Sun Country Bass Association Web Site
Championship Update
For those of you who haven't heard yet, get ready for some different fishing. Yes we are going to Grand Lake of the Cherokees. Yes it will probably snow and winds will blow in excess of 25 mph but at least it will be the same for all the teams who make the trip. We will also be fishing different than any of the past 6 Championships in that we won't be in shorts and t-shirts and we won't be working grass lines or drains like we have been seeing. More information will follow but we will be going out of Martin's Landing on Monkey Island and the Tournament HQ will be there as well as a Monday Fish Fry and Friday Awards. Off limits will start the Sunday following Labor day September 12th at sunset. It is posted on the calendar as well including the no solicitation rule. 2 additional hotels have offered discounts and their contact information is as follows:2010 Navajo Lake
All is ready for Navajo and hopefully the fish will cooperate as I know the rain will be teasing us for sure. Contestants meeting will be Friday night at 6:30 pm at Ayala's Sportsman's Inn, under new management as the name implies but Dennis has been gracious enough to let us have the meeting in back amongst the pool tables and although Chuck Rizuto's warehouse is almost perfect it doesn't offer the quick meals and seating. Registration and sign in will start at 5:30 and we should be out of there by 7:30 as the band will start setting up around 8pm. David Herrera and his wife Donna will be the weigh masters for the tournament and I will launch the boats both mornings. Tournament hours will be Saturday until 3pm and Sunday weigh in will be at 1:30pm. More details to follow at the meeting but stay tuned to be sure.2010 Elephant Butte
If you want it to be windy just have us schedule a tournament. Saturday blew like it was mad, but that was better than the hail that Clovis and West Texas received. Sunshine and windy for Saturday and Sunday was almost perfect. Elephant Butte has been fishing better and better over the past 2 years and as tough as the weather was Saturday a lot of limits were brought to the scales. Bob Lechel, fresh off his qualification to BASS Nationals along with partner Kenny Hansel found their way to the top with 2 limits totaling 20.8 pounds edging out Butch and Angie Colantonio with 20.61 pounds in second and Buddy and Mary Sanford in third with 19.99 pounds. Lawrence Roybal took Big Bass honors with a 5.61 Largemouth and Buddy and Mary took Ranger Cup honors. Current results are under the lake link tab and updated Super Team and Ranger Cup standings are now posted. Thanks to all for attending as I know the quick turn-around with Ute in 2 weeks made it difficult for some to get here.2010 Ute - June
Thanks as always to the folks in Logan for their hospitality, the
meeting went great and the folks at the Eagles and Diane from the
Subway helped to keep us on our toes. Of course a lot of us always give
to the Annex and they were crowded as usual with teams. Special thanks
go out to assistant tournament director Joe Smith for coming and losing
25 cents to me over the course of 36 holes at the 12 shores golf course.
The weather was fairly cooperative even though the wind could have laid
down a little but fishing was pretty good overall. Congratulations go
out to Walter Burnett and Bill McCoun on their big bass for the weekend a
six and a half pound largemouth. Additional congratulations go out to
Walter Burnett and Bill McCoun on their first place finish with over
twenty six pounds and to Walter and Bill for their first place in Ranger
Cup. In case you couldn't tell Walter and Bill did real well this past
weekend, but they weren't the only teams as 46 others showed up to take
some of the glory also. Jerry Osborn and Pete May climbed from ninth
place on Saturday to take second place honors and Todd Beren and Todd
Gentzel climbed from further back than that to take third place. Second
place Ranger Cup went to Billy Greeson and Mike Kelley but the catch of
the weekend went to Billy Greeson when he jigged the car keys from 20
feet down at the dock to save the day for the team, their ninth place
finish hurt a little but the keys staying at the bottom would have hurt a
lot! Final Standings are posted under the lake link. I will have the
Super Team results out by Thursday as I have to verify it all but it
will be close as Hales and Hales looked to take second and Hasselhoff
and Massucci looked to be third. Keep checking the tournament page as I
will note the change in the date on the link again.
Send me your pictures and I will be sure to post them for all to see.
